The consumer awareness report is one of the most powerful strategies you can start using as a photographer, to attract more prospects, and turn more of those prospects into clients. It works with all types of photography, is cheap to start up, and will work for you forever once it’s going!
The idea, is to create a special report, in the form of a downloadable report, physical report, or a DVD. It’s designed to make your prospects who are looking for a photographer aware of the risks and what they need to be aware of.
You’re essentially creating this report to educate your prospects, and explain exactly what you’d be looking for if you were them. Remember, you’ve got years of experience, and they’ll often not know the first thing about photography so you must speak in layman’s terms!
The report would be a little different for each type of photography, but you could warn you prospects about photographers who use the wrong equipment, lenses, cameras, lighting etc. As well as tog’s who aren’t experienced with editing, or simply don’t edit their photo’s. Plus smaller things like photographers who don’t know how to direct their subjects to get the best photo’s, leaving clients looking awkward.
Alongside the examples of what they should avoid, you could use yourself as the example of what to look for. For example, you could explain that you use the best quality camera along with lenses that allow you to shoot crystal clear photo’s in all situations. You wouldn’t want to constantly be implying that every other photographer is horrible and you’re the greatest… but simply alerting them to the fact that some photographers won’t be able to match your high standards.
You’d type it all up on your computer and turn it into a downloadable PDF file, or film it and upload it to a video hosting site like YouTube, or burn it to a DVD. The DVD will seem like the highest value to your prospects, so I would recommend that option if you’re doing higher paying jobs like wedding photography, or real estate photography.
What To Do With The Report?
You’d give it to your clients in exchange for their name and email of course!
Follow up with them a few times per week, giving them more hints on how to find a great photographer, as well as sending them special offers that you’re doing.
You can expect this strategy to collect you a lot more prospects because most people really have no idea what to look for in a photographer. It’ll help to show your prospects that you’re an expert and will increase their trust in you.
You’ll quickly start to double and even triple your prospect to client conversion rate, which means that you’ll at least double your business using this simple and cheap business building strategy!
